Betye Saar: CAGE. A New Series of Assemblages and Collages
December 6 – August 7, 2011
From a diverse arrangement of cages collected from flea markets, yard sales and antique shops, Betye Saar establishes cages as a metaphor for social, psychological, spiritual, economic and historical issues and symbols for resilience and survival. The works in Betye Saar: CAGE combine global perspectives with the artist’s personal interest in metaphysics, legends, and mystery.
A resident of Los Angeles, Saar has spent the last four years working intensively in the creation of these pieces which were most recently displayed at the Michael Rosenfeld Gallery in New York City.
