A Memoir in Movement: Carmen de Lavallade and Geoffrey Holder
December 19, 2013 – July 6, 2014
This exhibition selectively surveys over half a century of the prodigious artistic output of Carmen de Lavallade and Geoffrey Holder as actors, dancers, choreographers, teachers, directors, musicians, collectors and designers. It is filled with paintings, photographs, fashion dresses, show costumes and designs, books, and other treasures to offer museum visitors an intimate view into their artistic vision and accomplishments.
The artistry of this husband-and-wife team, separately and together, has illuminated the entertainment landscape since the late 40s. CAAM is honored to recognize the many significant contributions Carmen and Geoffrey have made and continue to make to the arts and letters of modern culture. Join us in celebrating the personal and career triumphs of Los Angeles' own Carmen de Lavallade and Trinidadian-born Geoffrey Holder.
This exhibition was originally curated by the DuSable Museum of African American History and has been re-organized by CAAM for an expanded presentation in our galleries. CAAM thanks United Airlines for providing transportation support for this exhibition.
