In Memoriam: Reverend Cecil "Chip" Murray

CAAM mourns the loss of Reverend Cecil "Chip" Murray, a community icon, faith leader, and tireless advocate for justice, who passed away on April 5, 2024, at the age of ninety four. Appointed by Governor Wilson, and serving under Governors Schwarzenegger, Davis, Brown, and Newsom, Murray stood as the Museum's longest-serving State Board member. His contributions were pivotal in facilitating CAAM's mission to celebrate African American art, history, and culture. We salute his extraordinary life, legacy of service, and lasting impact on our Museum and community.
