Self Portrait Comic Superheroes

Sunday, January 6, 2019

01:00 PM – 03:00 PM

Inspired by the work of featured artist Robert Pruitt, fashion yourself as a comic superhero. Magnify your strength using comic book techniques including costume design and vibrant colors, then share your characters and their comic book quests. Ages 7 and up.

The workshop will be lead by Nikkolas Smith. A native of Houston, Texas, Smith is a Hampton University graduate, Theme Park Designer at Disney Imagineering, and Children's Books Author/Illustrator. He is the author/illustrator of the picture books "The Golden Girls of Rio" (nominated for an NAACP Image Award) and "My Hair Is Poofy And That's Okay." He also creates activist art, film illustrations and Hollywood movie posters. He is a proud 2016 White House Innovators of Color fellow. His latest book "Sunday Sketch: The Art of Nikkolas" is a collection of more than 100 of his sketches. Nikkolas speaks at conferences (TEDxWatts) and schools all over the country, and after hours leads in youth mentoring. He lives in Los Angeles, California.
