Los Angeles-based poet, performer, community organizer, and activist Kamau Daáood has operated as a significant figure in the South LA arts community for decades. As an interlocutor, ethnographer, and member of the Pan Afrikan Peoples Arkestra since its inception, Daáood has amassed and maintained an archive of Ark ephemera, including posters, handbills, publications, and records. In creating Keeping Time, filmmaker Darol Olu Kae developed a relationship with Daáood and, with ethnomusicologist Samuel Lamontagne, began working with Daáood to organize and digitize the archive. For this talk moderated by CAAM Visual Arts Curator, Taylor Renee Aldridge, the artists will discuss the importance of self-archiving for one's own practice and artistic community.
