As a Smithsonian Affiliate, CAAM invites you to Michael Jordan: A Re-evaluation, a special online lecture by Damion Thomas, curator of sports for the Smithsonian’s National Museum of African American History and Culture.

At one point during the 1990s Michael Jordan was the most recognizable man in the world. Almost twenty years after his last game, this presentation evaluates his cultural legacy, and explains how he changed the world.

Thomas earned a Ph.D. in United States History at UCLA. Prior to joining the museum, he was an assistant professor at the University of Maryland, College Park and the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign, where he taught courses that focused on sports in United States history, sports and U.S. race relations, and sports and black masculinity. He is the author of Globetrotting: African American Athletes and Cold War Politics.
